This is my second year participating in World Hijab Day. I gladly accept the invitation to wear a hijab to stand in solidarity with Hijabi Muslim women and to raise awareness about what it means and why so many women choose to wear it. I support World Hijab Day because I believe in a woman’s right to choose. I believe that all women should be free to express their beliefs in whichever way they see fit. No woman should be subjected to persecution, ridicule, or violence as a result of her personal beliefs. My faith as a Unitarian Universalist calls me to support religious freedom and every woman’s right to search for her own truth and meaning, whatever that may be, and to seek justice for all people.
