I got death threats because of my Hijab

By  Emely Naima Aune Andersen (Karmøy/Norway)

I’m 16 years old and I live in a small town in Norway. I reverted to Islam about 4 months ago, alhamdulillah. I reverted in January, and I started with the hijab in February. I live in a Christian and critical city. I have not seen other Muslims here. I feel like I’m the only one here in my city, but I don’t know. When I started to wear the hijab, people looked down on me. I got death threats and my friends turned me back. people were embarrassed of me. I have not been and will not be accepted in this city.

I feel alone and lonely because I do not have any friends now, they turned me back but I still have my family. It’s funny how much people may dislike a person because of a headscarf. I feel beautiful in the hijab, I feel free in the hijab! If a woman is free to show off her body, shouldn’t she also be free to cover it? I’m not oppressed. I love the hijab, I’m not wearing it to please other than my lord Allah swt, and even If it’s hard times, I still smile and I could not be happier. Hijab is beautiful! my hijab will be with me until the day I die! “Verily with every hardship comes ease”- Quran 94:5

  • I appreciate your courage and determination to continue wearing Hijab despite having received life threats and your friends turning back to you. Remember that you are being tested by Allah and Allah loves those who remain patient and grateful to Him no matter what they have to go through. Physically you might be alone, but Allah is always watching over you and He is always there for you in different disguises. You have no idea how much reward you will get for your passion to get close to your Lord (Allah). I supplicate Allah to assist in ever step you take toward strengthening your Imaan.

  • May Allah bless you , honey and keep your smile forever. My advice to you is to try to change the place where you live, change your life, have a new start, get out of your box, out of all this, go out there fetch for other people, fetch for some other way of life, get a new of everything, even a new study and work. You are not a tree, u can move, go for your happiness wherever it is 🙂

  • You are not alone sister you are with God, you don’t need humans to feel loved or to feel safe,
Stay with Allah and remember our prise insha’allah in Ganna. Stay strong.

  • You are beautiful inside and outside 🙂
May Allah guide you through all the way 🙂

  • Salamu Alaikom sister (may God’s peace be upon you) 🙂

you’re not Alone, being a Muslim means that there are people all over the world who might have never met you but remember you in prayers because they genuinely care about you and love you for the sake of Allah.

May God ease your pain and hardship and reward you immensely for your patience.
Remember that God has power over all of this and God won’t make you go through anything that you can’t handle, look at it as a test that you CAN pass inshaa Allah (if God wills it) and always pray to God for help. Take it one day at a time and stay busy so you don’t think about it too much.

😀 you are so inspiring mashaa Allah, I admire your strength and courage, and you’re only 16!!! so admirable, you’re preparing for a beautiful life in this world and the afterlife inshaa Allah.

    Stay beautiful sister 🙂

also i will not just ask you to be strong and patient , you must think of sumthing like leaving this city that you said you will never be accepted in it, to another city where there is more muslims or maybe leaving the whole Norway to a muslim country . i think many muslims associations can arrange that for you to live in a muslim place non threatened with no fear , because muslim’s life is a priority . we are all here for you , to support and help you to be safe and be a good muslim . welcome if you wanna reach any of us anytime, so proud of you and god bless you .

  • May Allah rain blessings upon you. U are not alone. So proud of u. Keep your head up and don’t stop being yourself to please others.

  • Assalamu Alaikum Emely,

All the best in your struggle to maintain the hijab. It is beautiful, part of our religion, Islam, and sometimes causes unnecessary reactions in others. Stay strong, and know that you are admired and loved.

    hugs from Canada!

  • Masha ALLAH Sister. I am so pleased to hear that. You remind me of Maryam peace be upon here. Remember one thing, the harder your test the easier it will be for you on the day of Judgment and the higher the position you attain in Jannah. May ALLAH make it easy for you and give you Jannah. As a brother I will pray for you and ask for the best for you Insha ALLAH. As the prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him said ‘This world is like Paradise for the Non-Muslims and it is a prison for the Muslims.’

  • Honey your beautiful! What’s realy important is what Allah thinks of you, not people 🙂
Be sure that Allah will reward you for your patience
May Allah give you peace in your life <3

  • We are all here with you, stay strong and do not feel alone. Our hearts are close together although we are physically far away. Love of God and faith brings our hearths together. Those who reject you are short minded. Read Quran and remember all the people in time who got rejected because of their faith. Loads of love and encouragements.
